Revelations in Stillness
Don’t you know you can find a revelation anywhere?
I mean anywhere.
If you allow yourself time to think, if you slow down for just a second, you can grasp things that you had not before.
I heard a song that I had heard several times. I know the lyrics to the song, and I sing to it often enough. However, this time I actually listened to a lyric that I had never fully processed before.
I know that people consider the valleys to be your low points and the mountains to be your highlights. What if that’s not all there is to it?
The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. He leads me by still waters. Psalm 23 – many of us may know it well.
But what is in the valley? Streams. Rivers. Shade. Do we really grasp what is in the valley? Yes, some of them are scary: filled with the skeletons of those who didn’t make it through or those who linger in the shadows to try to fulfill their wicked plans… But dare I say, a great many of them are beautiful and we just never see it.
“Oh, the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He leads me by still waters ’til my fears are gone
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
Oh, I know You are with me, my Father, my Friend
Your goodness and mercy will follow me all of my days
I know by Your still waters, I’m safe
Still waters run through any valley I could find
I’m laying fear down here at Heaven’s riverside
Your Word has been true in every season of my life” (“Still Waters (Psalm 23)” -Leanna Crawford).
Did you catch that? Still waters, safe and gentle waters, they run through the valley.
The same valleys many of us try to depart so quickly from. The same ones many of us fear.
Did you also know that sometimes you’re not buried, you’re planted? Well, flowers grow in valleys too.
God bless and I hope this helps you too.
